I went camping two weeks ago with two friends. It wasn’t the wild, crazy, manly camping trip we imagined in our minds (that’s what happens when running water and bathrooms are accesible within 200 yards), but I did learn something.

Our fire

Food tastes so much better when you aren’t near or have access to any other food supply.

We had a can of baked beans, some hot dogs and buns (no ketchup), and three ears of corn. Boring.

Eating some beans. I look thrilled… via Instagram

We had a pot that we cooked the baked beans in over the fire. After we ate them, we used the same pot to cook the hot dogs. We then went on a midnight journey where we fought bad guys and survived an attack of ravenous wolves, came back, and used the same pot to boil our corn in.

Ok maybe the bad guys and wolves part part didn’t happen…

What’s the point?

It seems that the more we get, the less we realize we have, and the less we realize we have, the less grateful we are.

I was grateful for a plain hot dog, I actually thought it tasted really good. Had I been in my kitchen, I wouldn’t have.

So today I choose to be grateful, because there are more things than I realize that I should be grateful for.

And most of all, I am grateful that God loved us enough to forgive us and give us salvation through Jesus alone. Not because we deserve it (we don’t) or can earn it by our good works (we can’t), but simply because he loves us.

Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe.

-Hebrews 12:28

What hot dogs have you overlooked lately that you should be grateful for?
